New housing development
New housing development

Alsager has several challenges ahead. It has seen a large number of housing developments without the necessary infrastructure, green fields & spaces under threat, inadequate policing levels and attempts to introduce car parking charges.

On housing – whilst it is recognised we need housing, it should not be at the detriment of local communities. Housing should meet the needs of our town. We would aim to review and renew the Local Plan to ensure stronger protections.

Car Parking Charges have been attempted to be introduced in Alsager several times. Whilst there is a need for a borough-wide review of charges, we believe it should be a on a town-by-town basis on each town’s individual circumstances, not an unfair one-size-fits-all policy review. And we believe that there is a strong case against charges in Alsager – it would be a massive detriment to our town centre and to residents. We have successfully fought off charges in the past, and we will do so again.

If elected, we plan to:

  • Protect our local green spaces and parks
  • Protect Alsager from speculative developments by maintaining and improving planning policies
  • Renew the Cheshire East Local Plan to bring in stronger protections and environmental standards
  • Hold developers to account to ensure they meet their affordable housing targets
  • Support the roll out of the register of Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and produce an information pack for new tenants and landlords
  • Oppose any development that threatens the North Staffordshire/South Cheshire greenbelt in the south of the town
  • Work with the local policing team and relevant stakeholders to reduce anti-local behaviour
  • Tackle speeding through the deployment of a portable Speed Indicator Device (SID) and use the new Speed Management Strategy to assist communities implement 20mph zones where needed and supported by local residents
  • Work with key stakeholders to help solve on-street parking issues across the town
  • Continue to protect Cheshire East’s Children Centres
  • Fight against any future attempt at fracking in Cheshire East
  • Oppose any attempt to introduce car parking charges in Alsager
