Alsager is in need of investment in its infrastructure. Years of under-investment and pressures from the town expanding has left us lacking in infrastructure and services. From public services to public transport, from burial provision to highways – we need representatives who will work to bring more investment.

Our roads and pavements are crumbling – we have suffered years of cuts from central government. On the current level of funding it is estimated to take over 400 years to fix all the potholes and road defects in Cheshire East. We need to continually lobby for better funding – and preferably a change in government.

We also need to hold the council’s highways contractor to account – they were given a 15-year contract by the Conservatives in 2018 and a review half-way through their contract is due in this next council term. Until recently, Cheshire East Council never had any Quality Assurance Offices, meaning that the contractor had been left to ‘mark their own homework’. We will hold the contractor to account ensuring that road repairs, even on the current inadequate funding, are done to a better standard and that we get value for money.

If elected, we plan to:

• Continuously lobby for better funding to fix our crumbling roads & pavements
• Ensure that our road repairs are done to a high standard and are value for money by holding the Council’s highways contractor to account
• Work to get a new burial ground for our town
• Support plans to expand the in-house provision of home-to-school transport and the expansion of the GoTo responsive bus service across Cheshire East
• Push for a review of late-night bus services to support the night-time economy
• Press central government to allow local authority-controlled bus services (just like in Manchester, Liverpool & London)
• Protect and maintain our local public services
• Look into town-centre renewal, seeking government funding and private investment in our town centre to improve the public realm
